Nepalese Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on June 16 met with Prachanda, the leader of the country's Maoist rebels, to discuss holding elections for an assembly that would draft a new constitution. Prachanda was accompanied by his second-in-command, Baburam Bhattarai, and Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula at the meeting, which lasted two hours. Leaders from other key political groups in the country later joined them.
