A US-based provider of outsourced product development for global software companies, Symphony Services, has set up its fourth development centre in India here to house up to 2,000 professionals.

Branded the "Symphony Innovation and Excellent Center", it's the company's second development centre in Bangalore. Other two development centres are located in Pune and Mumbai.

All the development centres of the company, which provides collaborative, global outsourcing solutions for commercial-grade software and embedded product engineering lifecycle and analytics, are located in India, where it has a headcount of 3,000 professionals.

"We are doubling our capacity in Pune (which currently has 400 professionals)," said Ajay Kela, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director.

CEO and President Gordon Brooks said the company, which posted US$100 million in revenue in 2005, has today over 240 products under management for over 70 large customers and emerging companies in its development centres here, Pune and Mumbai.

Some of the company's customers are Autodesk, BMC Software, Hyperion, IRI and Siebel/Oracle, and Yahoo.

Brooks said the company would focus on innovation. He said the company is looking at starting operations in China, which probably would account for about 10 per cent of its total workforce in the next couple of years.

India is far ahead of China in relation to work being carried out by the company, and it would take a long time for Beijing to catch up with this country, he said.
