London equities hit their lowest level this year on Tuesday following sharp losses in Asia overnight

The FTSE 100 dropped 2.1 per cent to 5,500.8, having hit a low for the year of 5,467.4 earlier in the session, while the mid-cap FTSE 250 lost 3.2 per cent to 8,698.1.
