India would send a team of nine gamers to participate in the World Cyber Games 2005, to be held at Suntee City, Singapore, from November 16 to 20.

World Cyber Games (WCG) organised on the lines of the International Olympics, would see 800 participants from around 75 countries vying for world championshp titles and prize money of more than US $420,000, Mihir Tewari, Business Head IT Export and Marketing, told reporters.

The WCG is the World's first Cyber Game festival, designed to build a healthy cyber culture. Now in its fifth year, the contest would bring elite computer and video gamers from across the world to partcipate in a tournament style competition that culminates into a grand final.

The nine Indian finalists would be selected from those who qualify in the preliminary rounds to be held in eight metros in India, including, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkatta, Pune and Ahmedabad, he said.

The preliminary was kickstarted in Delhi on October 13 and was being held in Bangalore on Thursday and Friday.

The final round will be held in Mumbai on October 30/31 where 72 seminalists would compete with each other to be selected in the national team to be sent to Singapore.
