Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday underwent a successful surgery on his right hand at a New Delhi hospital, officials said.
The operation to relieve pressure on a nerve in his wrist was performed by doctors at New Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Sanjaya Baru, the prime minister's media adviser, said.
"It was a minor operation," Baru said.
Singh, 73, was back home and was attending to his official duties, the official said.
Singh's hand would remain bandaged for a few days, but the prime minister would be working normally, he said.
However, Singh, who was expected to spend Saturday at sea aboard an Indian aircraft carrier, has put off the trip for a while, Baru said.
