Things are looking better for NDA in Bihar this time
Sonia Chopra
Oct. 6, 2005

Recent polls and reports from the state shows better performance by NDA this time in Bihar. People of Bihar are just upset with Lalu, mob rule, lack of law and order and corruption at all levels of the Government.

The only problem is that some people are wary of old BJP leaders as well. They see little differnce between oldie BJP and corrupted Lalu sponsoring Congress. Using of minorities specially the Muslim communities for the purpose of vote getting is another aspect hated by common people especially by the Muslims in the state.

The BJP on Wednesday accused the UPA government at the Centre for forcing Bihar to go to polls again within a period of nine months and said NDA under Nitish Kumar's leadership would get a clear majority in the upcoming Assembly polls.

"The February elections exploded the myth of Laloo Prasad's invincibility and this time the people have made up their mind to vote NDA to power," BJP general secretary Mahajan said. Taking a dig at LJP chief Ramvilas Paswan, Mahajan said his strength was limited to securing victory of his 10 to 20 candidates which was not enough to form a government. "Moreover, he cannot be sure about keeping his flock together after the elections," he remarked.

"I have no objection to Paswan's demand for a Muslim Chief Minister provided he has the capability of providing good governance. I think Nitish has all the qualities required for good leader and an able administrator," Mahajan said, noting NDA made A.P.J. Abdul Kalam the President of India not becuase he was a Muslim but because he had the required leadership qualities.

When asked why Nitish Kumar was chosen NDA's Chief Ministerial candidate, Mahajan said, "we choose our captain on the basis of merit".

On RJD's charge that BJP is a communal party, Mahajan said, "to us secularism is that the Chief Minister as an individual can have a religion but the state of Bihar will not have a religion and there would be no discrimination on the basis of religion by the government. My party abides by this definitition of secularism".
