India's ONGC makes major gas discovery

It is a major breakthrough for India. India has found a huge gas reserve in the Krishna Godavari basin.

According to media reports, Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has made a major gas discovery in the Krishna Godavari basin, the Economic Times reported, citing industry sources. ONGC had bought the field, KG 98/2, from Cairn India last year for 135 mln usd, as part of a swap deal with Cairn Energy PLC. Cairn still has a 10 pct stake in the field.

ONGC is expected to make a formal announcement on the find by next week, the report said.
