Pataudi bribed the judge?

Did Pataudi bribe the judge? Why was he released by the judge like that?

According to media reports, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has suspended Jhajjar chief judicial magistrate Sudhir Jiwan who had allowed former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi to be released on bail after he was arrested for killing a protected blackbuck.

The suspension order was given to Jiwan Friday. The High Court had on Thursday directed the Haryana government to suspend Jiwan.

The High Court has also ordered the abolition of the Chief Judicial Magistrate's (CJM) court at Jhajjar. The CJM court for Jhajjar will now function from Rohtak.

Jiwan's suspension comes in the wake of his allowing Pataudi and others to get away on bail in the blackbuck poaching case in June even after the high court had earlier rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Pataudi and his industrialist friend Shashi Singh.

Pataudi and seven others were accused by police in Jhajjar of violating the wildlife act after carcasses of a blackbuck and two hares were found in their vehicles June 3.

Jiwan had created a stir in court by saying he had been threatened by some people. After sending Pataudi to police custody Jun 20 for three days, Jiwan had allowed him to be released on bail.

Legal experts here felt that the CJM was not competent to allow bail in the case and only a designated wildlife court judge was allowed to do that under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

The district police chief of Jhajjar, Hanif Qureshi, was transferred from his post earlier this month to Gurgaon.

The transfer of Qureshi within weeks of what was seen as mishandling of the Pataudi poaching case had raised eyebrows though it was said that Qureshi's transfer was related to the shifting of the former Gurgaon police chief Yoginder Nehra who came under criticism following the beating up of Honda factory employees last month.

The Jhajjar police had also come in for criticism for its handling of the poaching case as Pataudi was allowed to get away after being caught with the killed blackbuck.

Pataudi was untraceable for a fortnight before finally surrendering before the Jhajjar CJM on June 18 after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the High Court.
