US may block Venezuelan oil exports to US – the first step towards another regime change?
Venezuelan strong man Chavez is an open critic of America and the Bush Administration. America is looking into taking some silent steps.
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) is studying the implications for the U.S. economy of a possible suspension in Venezuelan oil exports to the United States, GAO managing director for natural resources and environment, Robert Robinson, told Spanish news agency EFE on Aug. 8. The study was requested in November 2004 by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, but work did not start until July and the report will not be ready for at least eight months, he said.
Is this a step towards another regime change? Many think tanks believe this may be new way America tells its adversaries that it can live without their oil. The alternative fuel and energy conservation in America eventually will tell the world that American market is open to allies and favored nations of America. The growing feeling in America is that the root cause of terrorism is the oil dependence of America on Middle East. But that may have started to change.
