A massive typhoon heading towards Beijing – 40,000 getting evacuated
Another massive calamity like the Tsuanmi may be in the happening in China. About 40,000 residents of China are being evacuated because of a massive typhoon coming it way. China is evacuating the suburban mountainous areas ahead of the onslaught of a rare typhoon that is fast approaching the Chinese capital.
We will keep a close lookout on reservoirs, rivers, mined-out areas and mountainous regions that are prone to landslide and mud-rock flow. If necessary, we will evacuate people living near those dangerous areas," Beijing News daily newspaper quoted an official with the Beijing Municipal Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters as saying.
"Beijing now has about 40,000 people living in areas prone to mud-rock flow and they are the first group to be relocated," said the official, adding they will also inspect other substandard houses to secure residents'' safety.
Beijing has established 72 sub-headquarters for flood control and mobilised 300,000 people to get ready for the coming typhoon, head of the city flood control and drought relief headquarters, Jiao Zhizhong said.
