Pakistan has its feet on two boats and is busy doing a balancing act between the two boats. On one side it has to keep its core constituency – the Islamic Jihadists happy while on the other side it must keep America feel that Pakistan is on American side. But the double-sided balancing act can go so far. Eventually, Pakistan is getting exposed. While Pakistan continues to talk peace in the east and the west, its core constituent the shadow ISI the under the ground intelligence operators are busy making sure the Jihadists are not defeated.

Pakistan is helping militants cross into Afghanistan from Waziristan using private vehicles and is deceiving the United States, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, secretary general of Pakistan's leading opposition party Mutahiddah Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) said on Aug. 8. He also warned that the MMA would protest across the country against a proposed crackdown on religious schools and expulsion of foreign students.

While Pakistan is showing great flexibility in trying to curb the terror operations from its territories, it is on the other hand silently helping the terrorists through non-official channel. No one can ever find any connection between Al-Queda and Musharraf. But Al-Queda is well entrenched in the country with solid support of a majority of Pakistan’s security forces, ISI and Government infrastructure. Musharraf’s approach is – if I know about it I have to take you out but as long as I do not know – don not ask do not say!

Officially Pakistan is showing its support for war against terror. For example, the United Kingdom and Pakistan are in the final stages of signing an extradition treaty, the Pakistani Foreign Office said on Aug. 8. The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding July 25 that significantly reduces the deportation of Pakistanis from the United Kingdom and regulates visas for Pakistanis, especially students, traveling to Britain. But at the same time Pakistan’s shadow ISI is helping the terror operatives to cause trouble in the West and the east in India.
