The Indian air force began airlifting supplies Aug. 6 into Imphal, the capital of Manipur state, to offset a blockade of portions of the province by Naga tribal organizations. The tribesmen are demanding that four ethnically Naga districts of Manipur be integrated into neighboring Nagaland state. Four transport aircraft capable of carrying 10 tons of food and medicine will airlift the supplies to Imphal's airport, where troops of the Madras Regiment will unload and distribute them.
