Hamas thrashes British attempts of certification of good character
Hiren Santal
Jun. 8, 2005

Hamas is not happy with recent attempt by the British to certify it as “good guys”. According to Palestinian media sources, Palestinian militant Islamist group Hamas has rejected a call by visiting British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw for the group to end its armed campaign against Israel, IRNA reported June 8. A spokesman for Hamas in the West Bank told the official Iranian news agency that the group is not interested in seeking a certificate of good character from foreigners because its legitimacy is based on its support from the Palestinian people. Straw should have focused on pressing the Israelis to end the occupation, the spokesman added.
