Looking ahead in life is the first step in living smart
If you like to lead a successful and dignified life, you must look ahead and make the right decision. Looking ahead is trying to understand the possible consequence of an action today. All successful people are extremely good in looking ahead.
Simulating the result of an action mentally and visualization of the same is essential in looking ahead. A good teacher looks ahead by understanding how the students will learn a lesson and fine-tuning the teaching techniques to create best learning experience. Bill Gates looked ahead and understood what people needed in a personal computer. A good politician looks ahead and understands the consequence of a statement. A good businessman can look ahead see the reason for heavy or slack demand for a product or service.
Those who are shrewd, look ahead before anything they do. They would even look ahead about the consequence of eating a food before committing to it.
Unfortunately we all learn this through experience. Though it turns out to be the most important part of a lesson in life, it is not taught in any school or college. Some business schools try to teach something called quantitative decision making but that is more math than anything else.
You can apply look ahead technique for anything you do. Suppose you are planning to buy a house. Think about what will happen to the property five or ten years from today. Think about what may happen to you five or ten years from today.
Suppose you are not listening to your doctor. Think about what can happen after a few years. Marriages can be very successful if you look ahead and find reasons why you will be happy with your partner non only today but five, ten, fifteen years or for the life time.
In investment look ahead is very critical. Most investors fails look ahead and visualize what will happen if the stocks or commodities they are buying goes South – deep South. What is the exit strategy?
One thing you cannot look ahead though – that is in romance, compassion and forgiving. Do not try to apply “looking ahead” in everything. Then you will never cry or laugh freely.
