Iraqi forces and coalition military winning the spot battles in Iraq but it seems there is no end to insurgency
Iraq’s new Army and Coalition forces continues to crush insurgency in Iraq. But it seems there is no end to the number of people fighting for insurgency in Iraq. The biggest problem is ten insurgents are killed or captured, twelve more new ones arrive who are ready to fight. That makes any military tired. Not necessarily, these are Iraqis who are fighting for insurgency. They are a mixture of foreign fighters from other Islamic countries and Iraqis.
According to media sources, Iraqi and U.S. forces in southwestern Baghdad, Iraq, arrested 109 suspected militants June 4, U.S. Maj. Wes Wright told Agence France-Presse. Wright said a massive military presence was not apparent inside Baghdad because a protective ring had been created around the Iraqi capital ahead of raids on "pinpoint targets," and that the operation would continue until there was a substantial drop in violence in the capital. Many of the raids took place in towns up to 25 miles south of Baghdad, Col. Adnan Abdel Rahman of the Iraqi Interior Ministry said.
But the insurgency and violence continues. Iraqi Government has control over Baghdad. But outside Baghdad it is a war zone. All over Iraq even in Baghdad, any one can get killed or kidnapped any time. Surprise attack disguised within common people is the tactic insurgents are using.
Longer term this is a fight of tenacity. Whoever has the staying power will win. The real fight is between the Sunnis supported; Al-Queda instigated insurgency and the long-term liberation forces of Kurdistan and Shiite majority. If and when the coalition forces leave Iraq, the two sides will have equal power. The real future of Iraq will be determined at that time.
Long-term insurgencies cannot succeed without the support of common people. And no one knows how popular is this insurgency with coalition forces present. People are afraid and are not talking. Once people of Iraq have freedom in true sense, they will able to express and may be insurgency and terrorism will come to an end.
But United States cannot leave Iraq at this stage because Iranians and Kurds will take undue advantage of a power vacuum. For now Iraqis will have to thank the Americans for sacrificing people and resource to keep their country together.
