Musharraf recognizing Pakistan economic prosperity more important than military equivalency with India and proliferating nuke to Iran and North Korea
Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf is a new man since his visit to India. He is recognizing that there is no way Pakistan can really compete in any way the neighboring emergent super power. Pakistan needs a strong economy not to lag behind India too far, which can be a security lapse for Pakistan in the long run. For that Pakistan needs a strong economy, exports and solid foreign investments.
Musharraf said on April 20 in the Philippine capital of Manila that his government will stop militant attacks against bus services across the cease-fire line in the disputed Kashmir region in an effort to promote peace talks with India.
Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi will meet with Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf in Islamabad in April to formally announce the resumption of yen loans to Pakistan. In addition to announcing the $500 million in annual yen loans -- suspended in 1998 after Pakistan conducted nuclear testing -- Koizumi and Musharraf will discuss bilateral and regional issues, including a potential free trade agreement and the possible spread of nuclear technology to North Korea.
May be the General finally got the right idea. Economic prosperity based on export-oriented economy is critical for Pakistan!
