Arab led Disturbance in Iran
Iran has started experiencing internal disturbances especially in the Arab settlements. They promptly blamed the foreign agents for such incitement. But reports point to something serious going on that may soon get out of hand.
Arab residents in the Iranian city of Ahvaz in the southern province of Khuzestan clashed with police on April 15th after a supposed letter, attributed to former Vice President Mohammaf Ali Abtahi, calling for the relocation of the ethnic Arab community was circulated in the city. A local official at the Khuzestan governor's office said that the authorities had the situation under control after several state buildings; banks and police vehicles were damaged. The official suspected that the letter was planted by foreign agents working for the "enemies of the [Islamic] revolution." In an effort to allay the fears of the Arab community, he pointed out that the country's defense minister, Rear Adm. Ali Shamkhani, along with other top civilian and paramilitary officials, hailed from the ethnic Arab community. Abtahi denied writing the letter on his Web site. A government spokesman said that Iranian President Mohammad Khatami had ordered the Intelligence Ministry and the Supreme National Security Council to investigate into the source of the letter.
