A new era for BJP? Reengineering Hindutva may need new young blood – Advani and Vajpayee may need to retire: RSS Chief
BJP went through a lot in the last eighteen months. It is doing excellent as an opposition party in politics but it has failed to revive Hindutva, According to the RSS chief Sudarshan, new comers in the party should replace the old thinking politicians who just could not make it.
BJP fell short of expectation of all in India. It was the failure of Hindutva but it was failure of old thinking and vintage policies says some think tanks in India. While Vajpeyee was an excellent statesman and Prime Minister of India, he failed to provide the leadership to main constituency of the BJP party.
When you compare George Bush with Vajpayee, you understand the failure of the later. Bush not only won the reelection but he carried both the houses and converted America as a representative power of the conservative right. In contrast, Vajpayee and Advani have done little for the core constituency of the BJP. They have not only failed to provide leadership, they have also made people frustrated.
While atrocities of Gujarat are something RSS and BJP need to avoid, they have failed to make Hindus feel proud. They just could not go beyond the Ayodha issue – a symbolic gesture and a matter of life and death for some hardheaded Hindu militants.
According to PTI, Speaking on NDTV 24x7's ''Walk the Talk'' programme, Sudharshan said both leaders should take note of their age and remove themselves from active command of the party.
"Both should step aside and see younger leadership emerge in front of them," he said.
When the interviewer pointed out that Vajpayee often said he was tired, the RSS chief said, "I have been saying that he should go and let new faces emerge. He should stay as senior advisor only."
Asked whether the time had come for "some persons" to retire, he said, "Absolutely, age is a factor after all."
On whether Advani was also getting old, Sudarshan said, "Yes, both should step aside and see younger leadership emerge in front of them."
On the dissidence being faced by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Sudarshan said, "That is because of his style of functioning."
However, he was quick to add that "his (Modi's) decisions are right and he gets the work done well".
Asked what was wrong with his style of functioning, Sudarshan said, "He does not take all the people into confidence collectively. He meets them separately."
The RSS chief said he had advised Modi to "take everyone along with you" and hoped that his style would change as he was "facing pressure from all sides."
