Politicians, police, and media all trying hush up Mamata Bannejee's macho rescue episode of vandals in Kolkata

Kolkata police hushes up Mamata Bannejee's macho rescue episode of vandals in Kolkata. Kolkata media is afraid to even write a column on the episode. BJP does not want to talk since Mamata Bannerjee may laevae UPA and join NDA. Even communists are quiet.

Two days after a wild mob of 300 Trinamool workers and supporters led by family members of Mamata Bannerjee, the current chief minister of West Bengal, stormed a police station in Bhowanipur, the heart of Kolkata, assaulted policemen and vandalised government and private vehicles, the Kolkata police is trying to hush up the incidence. Interestingly, they have silently filed a preliminary report of the rioting saying it was the fault of their own cops in Bhowanipur area.

The mob, comprising members of two clubs in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s south Kolkata neighbourhood, fought street battles with policemen from Bhowanipore police station who had asked them not to burst crackers outside a cancer hospital and a children’s hospital late in the night, and to not block traffic on a major thoroughfare as they took out a boisterous Jagaddhatri Puja immersion procession.

The chief minister personally stormed the police station that night, shouted at top Kolkata Police officers, and got the two vandals released who were arrested and kept in custody.

According to sources in Kolkata, the puja is organised by an alleged building construction material supplier tycoon Jagannath Sau, who is a close associate of the chief minister’s brother, Baban Banerjee. There are rumors of Jagannath Sau supplying resource to Bannerjee family and Trinamool Congress party.

As of Tuesday last, Kolkata Police had not registered a case against the people who attacked the police station.Sebak Sangha is the chief minister’s para club, located at a stone’s throw from her home. Interestingly, a preliminary inquiry report prepared by the assistant commissioner of the South division of Kolkata Police is learnt to have indicted officers of the Bhowanipore station for the violence and their failure to control the mob, and criticised them for being rash with those leading the procession.

Sources say, Mamata Bannerjee is having difficulties in controlling the police force in West Bengal who were controlled by bthe Marxists for more than forty years without interruption. The police in Kolkata is trying to hush up the case. None of the police officer will be effected by the indictments obviously. They also want to keep Ms. Bannerjee out of criticism of press.

However, what is most bizzare is the fact that the press in Kolkata is absolutely quiet about the incidence. BJP is quiet because they expect Ms. Bannerjee to part with Congress part and form alliance with them. Even the totally perplexed and terrified communists are also relatively quiet about the incident.

Mamata Banerjee is one of the most honest leaders in India. All Indian politicians have weakness over allowing family influence overshadow public interest issues. She is not immuned from that either. Why blame Indians, it is more true for Americans, Bush, Clinton, Kennedy, on and on.
