Southwestern Pakistan was struck by a magnitude 7.4 earthquake, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) stated Jan. 18, Reuters reported. Initially the quake was reported as a magnitude 7.3 at a very shallow depth of 6.3 miles (10 km). It struck at 1:23 a.m. local time 25 miles (45 km) west of Dalbandin, 160 miles (255 km) west of Kalat, 640 miles (1020 km) west-southwest of Islamabad, and 195 miles (310 km) east-southeast of Zahedan, Iran, according to the USGS.

The onshore quake had not triggered a tsunami in the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Tsunami Center said.
