America trying hard to gain a safe exit for Musharraf but Musharraf reluctant to leave Pakistan and his Presidency without a solid fight
The charge sheet is ready against the Pakistani self proclaimed President for impeachment. Americans and some European countries are trying hard for his safe exit. But Musharraf is not going to go down without a solid fight. Still the nuke buttons against India are in his hand. The Military is divided but still he commands respect from some generals.
The Pakistani President wants legal immunity and then run for election in Pakistan to win in the next poll as the legitimately elected President of Pakistan. Musharraf’s political party wants him to step down, fight in polls and come back as the head of the state.
That is what PPP and other political parties are afraid of. After his resignation, if Pakistan plunges into a chaos or bad governance, he can win the next election as Prime Minister and come back to power.
Interestingly, US is quickly opting for some distance from Musharraf now. The US on Sunday said it was not considering granting asylum to "good ally" President Pervez Musharraf, facing an impeachment move, to help resolve the political crisis in Pakistan.
"This is an issue that is not on the table," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said, refusing to take sides in the standoff and insisting that Washington had a "broad" Pakistan policy.
The top Bush administration official was asked if the US is considering giving asylum to Musharraf as a way to help settle the crisis stemming from the PPP-led coalition government's move to impeach him.
