Nuclear disaster inevitable in India – look what happened in France
Ashima Managa
Jul. 18, 2008

India is still a small user of nuclear energy. The country is lead by politicians that are little educated and not informed about nuclear technologies. While Indian nuclear scientists are world class, in recent days they have learnt to politic and create spins.

India with a population of one billion and one third the size of United States is not an easy place to experience nuclear leaks and majors disasters.

Indian politicians and these days politically motivated nuclear scientists must understand there is a major difference in building some small nukes from plutonium and massive energy generating nuclear reactors. The concern is that of public safety and health hazards.

India should look at France to learn how nuclear energy can be really used for generating electricity. Even France is having serious difficulty in maintaining safety as its nuclear infrastructure ages.

In France, Uranium-bearing liquid has leaked from a broken underground pipe at a nuclear site in Southeastern France, the national nuclear safety authority said on Friday. It was the second leak discovered at a French site this month.

Experts are working to determine how much leaked uranium is present at nuclear company Areva's plant in the town of Romans-sur-Isere, the Nuclear Safety Authority said in a statement. Specialists are to work to clean up the site.

This can happen in India on a mega scale wiping out 30 to 40% of the population all of a sudden. At that point the nuclear proponents and those who sold India for $100 billion worth of nuclear reactors will hide in the cave.
