The speaker of the Indian Parliament is trying to rebel against his Marxists rank and files and create a solid history. If he does what he says he will do, he will be one of the rare communists who will put his red flag down and join the free world economies.

People in the streets of Kolkata, the current Mecca of Indian Marxism, are calling Somnath Chatterjee a traitor. He is elected from South Kolkata, the center of Indian intellectualism.

What changed him to oppose his own party?

According to Kolkata daily, an angry Somnath Chatterjee told Prakash Karat he would vote for the Congress if he was forced out of the Speaker’s chair in haste.

The Marxists and their allies the Left Front wants to defeat the pro-American Manmohan Singh’s Government. In the trust vote every vote will count. So the Left Front is counting on the Speaker’s vote too. The Speaker of the Parliament cannot vote unless he first steps down as the Speaker.

The famous Amar Singh (the SP rep of Anil Ambani) wants that speakers vote to snub down the communists and Indian nationalist party BJP.

Some say Somnath has joined the CIA. But one can also wonder if CIA would like to have a guy like that who is literally useless. According to the last count, the Manmohan Singh’s Government is up by two votes if Somnath is the speaker. If he is not the speaker, Manmohan wins by one vote.

Congress may give in to some questionable independent MPs from the North East in providing more autonomy. Otherwise Manmohan can lose by a few votes. Amar Sighs goal is to create chaos in the Parliament after he votes and then becomes the Speaker. Somnath is secretly helping them by presiding the debate (that way Left Front does not get his vote) and then resign the Speaker’s post to bring in Amar Singh in full control of the Indian Parliament.

Interestingly, the street speculations are perhaps coming true. Believe it or not, the Speaker of Indian Parliament and perhaps the newest capitalist convert from communist, the Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today said the CPM did not consult him before putting his name on the list of Left MPs who withdrew support to the Manmohan Singh government signaling he committed to stay as the Speaker and abstain from voting against pro-American Manmohan Singh.

Somnath in recent day while flying executive class of Indian Airlines has grown a love for the items of luxury and privileges. Is it that what is making him quit the communism?
