After support from Mulayam Singh Yadav (SP) and the third front, UPA short by 12 votes to clinch the nuclear deal with America
SP agreed to disagree with some of the policies of the Government while supporting unconditionally the nuclear deal with Untied States. All eyes are on some smaller regional parties as UPA is just shy of clinching the number needed to go ahead with the deal.
Privately Manmohan Singh said that the dela is a reality now with several independents and smaller regional parties getting invitation into the coalition to share power.
The Left is perhaps left behind by the UPA coalition with Lalu Prasad Yadav bringing in the SP and others from the third front.
The real challenge however comes from the NDA coalition. BJP is also determined to make sure that UPA coalition Government is dissolved after getting the razor thin majority for the nuclear deal.
It will be a political affirmation and then the Government will fall because of disagreement between Congress Party, SP and others.
The Left may be able to influence some smaller parties to stay put and not support Manmohan Singh. The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today hinted that it may not cross the fence with the Samajwadi Party on the nuclear deal. AGP president Brindaban Goswami said the party might not be able to support the Congress on the deal despite being an ally of the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA).
|he NDA coalition partners are trying their best to deny Congress party the 12 votes needed to stay in power. Speaker Somenath Mukherjee, a Marxist from West Bengal, will call for a test of strength in the parliament to initiate the dissolution of the Government. Some Congress party MPs are questioning speaker’s length of tenure.
Indian Parliament is headed for a chaotic mess!
