Indian Left parties decide to withdraw support for Congress led UPA coalition on India-US nuke deal – Sonia Gandhi chases SP to bag the deal
Anil Rane
Jun. 29, 2008

A blunt message was delivered by the CPI(M) Polit Bureau to Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and company. CPI(M) formally announced that it will withdraw support in concert with other Left parties if the UPA government proceeded with the shameful India-US agreement.

Party General Secretary Prakash Karat told reporters that his party and the Left allies will not allow India going to the Board of Governors of the IAEA for approval of the safeguards agreement.

CPI(M) Polit Bureau statement said “in case the government decides to go ahead with such a harmful agreement, which has no support in Parliament, the CPI(M) will withdraw support to the UPA government in concert with other Left parties."

In the mean time Samajwadi Party today said its bitter rivalry with the Congress was a thing of the past. According to sources Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi are pursuing SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to support UPA to stay in power and bag the India-US nuclear deal that is worth $100 billion. A lot of money is involved and for that sharing power with Mulayam Singh Yadav is no big deal for the Congress party.

BJP is also looking into the possibility that the outgoing failed Government of Manmohan Singh will the deal before the Government is thrown out of office. In that case it will an agreement between US and an illegitimate Government of India and the deal will have to be revoked.
