Another mistake by India – India should build bioengineering and aerospace cities instead of dinosaur IT cities
Harish Baliga
Jun. 16, 2008

It is the trade of the past. Bioengineering and aerospace is the future. But India has decided to build 43 new IT cities. Each IT city will be set up in an area of more than 500 hectare. The cities will altogether generate employment for around 3.5 million people by 2018.

The new growth sector is Bioengineering and Aerospace. IT is the dinosaur. It is becoming a trade like plumbing or furniture making. Right now still some well educated engineers needed to build new systems and maintain legacy systems. But the recession in US is changing things very fast. IT is loosing its charm for the career seekers.

Ignorant and naïve Indian politicians are looking at the current state of matters and going ahead to build infrastructure to capture more American dollars and Euros from the euro zone. But these are the same politicians that could not foresee the skyrocketing oil and food prices. These are the same politicians that overlooked India’s current financial crisis. Leadership is not following the current trend but also to be able to predict the future trend.

The advancement bioengineering and aerospace will dwarf the residue excitement left in IT. A few companies who are actually struggling to keep up with the future now dominate IT. But the medical field is getting transformed into a pure engineering practice from the current trial and error modes of the doctors. The aerospace is what will dominate the next 50 years. The aging baby boomers in America provide the necessary financial resource to make bioengineering as the most lucrative field of outsourcing.
