India deploys $40 million monitoring centre to control content of the Private TV stations
Sunil Chaturvedi
Jun. 14, 2008

India is ready to control the private TV station contents. The goal of the 40 million monitoring centre is to keep track of programes that violate the Programmes and Advertising Codes under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act 1995. Simply put, Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting wants to closely and perhaps censure the contents of the content of private television channels.
The war of words between freedom speech advocates, the private broadcasters, and the common Indians versus the Government officials and politicians who are afraid of free press is heating up.
It demonstrates the government's desire to control free media. Free press in never really free. However, this $40 million infrastructure will put a lid on the free information on the TV.
