Defense outsourcing should be reversed – America cannot lose 20,000 more jobs from US Air Force outsourcing to Airbus
Tania Sailor
Mar. 9, 2008

America is close to $700 billion in trade deficit per year. The balance of payments is worsening rapidly. The dollar is sinking. The manufacturing and well-paid jobs are getting shifted to overseas. The American Government is sacrificing the American middle class.

The recent US Air Force decision to award Airbus the $40 billion contract is deplorable. It just shows how less sensitive is the Bush Administration for the common people in America. Susan Scwab, currently United States Trade Representative, defends US Air Force’s decision and points out that many American companies will gain from the contract. The fact is that America will lose net 20,000 manufacturing jobs from this decision that lacks common sense. The Office of the United States Trade Representative, or USTR, is an arm of the executive branch of the United States government that falls within the Executive Office of the President. It is responsible for the United States'' international trade policy at bilateral and multilateral levels.

The aerospace workers unions are up in the arms. With lower dollar anything in Europe is costlier. In addition, America should not provide technology and jobs to Europeans when America is in recession.

This is just another example of senseless ‘globalization’ that squeezes the American middle class.
