H2B - human rights abuse in US - slave treatment at a Mississippi shipyard?
Tania Sailor
Mar. 8, 2008

They were promised a green card. They paid $20,000 fee. They were tricked into slavery into America. Yes, believe it or not this is happening in 2008. The American employers use illegal aliens, treat them as slaves, and the American Government looks the other way.

But this case is even worse. These welders and pipe fitters were brought from India on legal visa. They allege that they live like pigs in a cage in a work camp run by Signal International in Pascagoula shipyard.

It is against the labor laws in US. It is a serious case of human rights abuse.

Signal International, however, strongly denied the workers'' allegations. "Unfortunately, a few of the workers whom Signal had sponsored for H2B visas and recruited have made baseless and unfounded allegations against Signal concerning their employment and living conditions," it said in a statement.

This is a classic case where a corporation tried to lower cost of labor by bringing in alien labor force luring them with false hopes. This is going on all over United States.

Why can’t companies like Signal pay US wages and hire US citizens? Why do they have to bring Indians from India with false hopes and treat them like animals?
