A secret deal between India and Russia for the aircraft carrier Gorshkov
Anil Rane
Feb. 28, 2008

India finally agreed to pay more to secure the aircraft carrier Gorshkov. The Indians and the Russians keep the exact deal secret.

The warship requires installation of new turbines, boilers, 2500 km of cabling and strengthening of its flight deck for operations by MiG 29 fighters as part of the new retrofitting to be undertaken on the carrier.

India has also agreed to send 100 trained personnel from its shipyard to Sevmash Shipyard in the Arctic to join 1200 Russian personnel working on the ship.

The aircraft carrier will go through a series of deep water tests for more than fourteen months. The sea trials for the carrier would comprise sailing it out to great distances and operating fighters from the deck.
