Stump microphone manifests Ponting coercing umpire – time to ban Ponting and the Australian team from world cricket
Rita Nair
Jan. 30, 2008
The stump microphone has the evidence what Ponting and his team did on the field to win against India. It is shame for the world cricket. ICC should ban Ponting and the Aussie team for trying to win by influencing the umpires through ‘all’ means.
The stump recording exposes the fact that Ponting coerced umpire Mark Benson to act during the Sydney Test. In fact, Ponting was heard urging umpire Benson to speak to Harbhajan. The microphone audio gives full evidence of the extent of the Aussie on-field aggression.
From the beginning to the end the Indian team was treated as second-class people in Australia. Indians face organized racial discrimination in Australia. That is well known. Indians who go and settle in Australia know that and must be ashamed of the same. But to treat a visiting cricket team as bunch of second tier human beings and beat the hell out of them through umpire fixing practices is unheard of.
