Pakistan - militants gain ground, democratic freedom tortured, Musharraf shows his ruthless brutal power, the world stares at the nukes
Balaji Reddy
Nov. 7, 2007
Pakistan is in a strange situation. The whole world is watching but doing little to what can be termed as the decades worst nightmare.
The outnumbered security forces of Pakistan laid down their arms and fled their posts in the North Eastern Tribal region after the Taliban led ruthless terrorists and militants gained more ground in Swat valley in northwestern Pakistan by seizing several key towns.
The militants are gaining grounds slowly and steadily. Pakistan military is getting demoralized as it is asked repeatedly to move against the common people of Pakistan.
The democratic freedom in Pakistan is under torture. Musharraf blames the freedom, judicial and democratic infrastructure for the slow and steady defeat of his Military in the hands of the pro-Taliban militants. He has lashed out against the judicial system, intellectuals and middle class to hide his bi8ggest Military failure to control the Pakistani terrorists and militants.
Interestingly, the rest of the world is just watching the whereabouts of the nukes. They forget the fate of nukes lies in the fate of Pakistan. If the common people are tortured, the democratic freedom killed by a corrupt ruthless General, sooner or later the nukes will end up in the hands of the militants.
It is time to prevent another Iran in Pakistan. The US support for Musharraf can backfire the same way it did when US backed Shah of Iran.
