Pakistan lawyers showing the world what freedom really takes against a brutal dictator – will Egyptian lawyers follow the Pakistan lawyers? What would have western lawyers do?
Sonia Chopra
Nov. 6, 2007

What Musharraf is planning to do is similar to Mubarak of Egypt. In the name of quasi democracy and freedom, just like the Egyptian leader, Musharraf has taken the steps to create a permanent state of dictatorship. The attorneys in Pakistan are fighting.

It is really remarkable what the Pakistani attorneys are doing. They are resisting the security forces for the sake of freedom. The Egyptian attorneys did not do that. They allowed Mubarak to dominate the space in the name of freedom.

What would have American and European attorneys do? Would they really sacrifice their blood for freedom? Not so likely, say many international think tanks. People become lawyers and doctors in the West to make money. Upholding the constitution is important for them but we wonder if they would ever sacrifice their blood like the Pakistani attorneys.

Pakistan's deposed chief justice called on lawyers nationwide to defy baton-wielding police and protest President Gen. Pervez Musharraf's imposition of emergency rule.

``Go to every corner of Pakistan and give the message that this is the time to sacrifice,'''' Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who is under virtual house arrest in Islamabad, told lawyers by mobile phone Monday. ``Don''t be afraid. God will help us and the day will come when you''ll see the constitution supreme and no dictatorship for a long time.''''

It is time to side with Pakistan attorneys. It is time to bring Musharraf to justice in the international court of law. It is time to clean Pakistan from terrorists and special interest driven corrupt military supported dictators like Musharraf.

Only democracy and freedom can defeat Al-Queda and Taliban in Pakistan. Pakistan’s ISI and Musharraf’s military created Taliban and supported Al-Queda against Afghanistan, India and US. It is time that Musharraf, Al-Queda and Taliban are brought to justice.
