TCS IT professionals get job offers from IBM India and other Global companies with 40% more salary and perks – the new trend!
Staff Reporter
Mar. 6, 2005

A new trend observed in India is to make IT professionals jump from established Indian local companies to international software companies with 30 to 40% more salaries and perks.

Many from TCS have received solid offers from IBM India and other global software services companies trying to break into India in a short shift. The professionals are reporting that the American companies are offering 30 to 40% more salaries and perks. According to sources, there is panic among the multinationals in missing the “India Gold Rush 2005”.

The IT professionals are confused and sometimes just does not know what to do.

There is no guarantee that IBM India or other Western companies will survive the India 2005 outsourcing gold rush. America may close the door and they these companies may disappear like General Electric did last year selling its outsourcing outfit in India for a billion dollar. If America becomes trade protectionist then moving into IBM India and other companies can be catastrophic. On the other hand, working in IBM India can expose an IT professional to more mainstream projects and enhance his/her career. In addition 40% jump in the salary is not a matter of joke.

There is another wild card. As America closes the door for Indian software professionals and IT companies, India and China is in the process of creating a strategic joint open market environment. The Indian software companies can really boom with access to Chinese and Indian software market.

The other scenario is that India-China market booms with the American market. In both these cases TCS will do much netter than IBM India.

”It is a tough decision”, says Saurabh. He is talking to people in US he knows in the IT market to get some guidance.

TCS may lose half of its staff and have trouble in fulfilling contractual obligations of its existing clients as the war over grabbing critical employees flare up in India.

The wage inflation is another factor that can be real problematic.
