Family is more important than love, passion and sizzle - Kareena must be joking!
Do not fall from the chair when you hear Kareena say sex, passion and love is unimportant compared to family, friendship and association.
From whore to wife, Kareena Kapoor is switching roles. Although Bewafaa may not have had a great box office opening, Bebo says she identifies completely with her character in the film.
Anjali, claims Kareena, is very close to who she really is. According to her: "I’m basically a very simple and emotional person. I would never do anything that my family does not approve of. Nothing is more important to me than my family - not even love."
Kareena is certainly hoping to make a fresh start with Bewafaa, especially since Dharmesh Darshan, the man who has directed the film, gave elder sister Karisma the biggest hit of her career.
"I hope Bewafaa works for me just as Raja Hindustani did for Karisma. I am sure I will be noticed for my whole new look and for the way I have portrayed Anjali in the film," she says.
While she has played a married woman before in Aitraaz, this is for the first time that Kareena is cast as a mother of two.
"I have always experimented with my roles, be it Chameli where I was a prostitute or Aitraaz where I played a loyal and doting wife. Tell me, how many people would have the guts to play a wife complete with mangal sutra and sari at the age of 23 or a prostitute at the beginning of their career? But then I have enormous belief in my talent, my fans and my destiny. Having done so many different roles, I just had to go a step ahead. Anjali's role in Befawaa looked perfect. It is quite a central role since everything in the film revolves around her and those associated with her. Playing a mother was a conscious decision as part of my evolution as an actress and I had a great time doing it," she says.
In Bewafaa, Kareena plays the much younger second wife of Aditya Sahai (Anil Kapoor) whom she marries after the death of his first wife Arti (Sushmita Sen) during childbirth.
According to her: "I wanted to put critics wrong when I accepted the role of Anjali. Anilji (Kapoor) was a thorough professional and I learnt a lot from him. Incidentally all my co-stars in Bewafaa are my seniors. While Akshay and I have done a few films together and share great screen chemistry, I really hit it off with Sushmita. I think she was terrific in Main Hoon Na and I was delighted to work with her when the opportunity came. We both bonded well and had a great time shooting for the film."
