Many Indian doctors who worked in British Medical System are being detained and interviewed in Australia

Jul. 6, 2007
Four doctors were interrogated in the western cities of Perth and Kalgoorlie after police carried out raids in hospitals there. There is a sense of frustration within this medical community. The tension in the Australian security apparatus is equally high. The connections between Al-Queda and these medical doctors are not clear yet. But Al-Queda’s number two is a medical doctor from Egypt and may have tried to recruit doctors who can be deadly within the medical system.
The concern for these foreign doctors in Australia is their safety and civil rights. The stake for the Aussie security system is to identify immediately all sleeping cells of Al-Queda and other terror organizations.
Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty said four search warrants were executed at hospitals in Kalgoorlie and Perth.
Attorney-General Philip Ruddock said a number of items have been taken by police for further examination, including telephones and laptop computers. No dangerous materials have been seized, he said.
The Indian doctors are upset. They feel they are singled out because of their ethnic origin and religious affiliations.
