Jammu and Kashmir was no longer at the UN Security Council agenda and Pakistan was covering up this fact for its own reasons
Media Release
Jun. 7, 2007

A London-based non-governmental organization (NGO) with a consultative status at the United Nations (UN) has claimed that the issue of Jammu and Kashmir was no longer at the UN Security Council agenda and Pakistan was covering up this fact for its own reasons. In its annual report released in London, Jammu and Kashmir Council for Human Rights (JKCHR) revealed that Kashmir was removed from the agenda in August 1996.

"Kashmir is no more on the UN agenda in the manner in which it had been since January 1948. It is there on a dodgy reminder provision and could be deleted permanently if any member State fails to have it agitated annually. Kashmir had not been discussed for 31 years since its last discussion on November 5, 1965," said the Chairman of the JKHRC Dr. Nazir Geelani. The report titled "Questions for Great, Good & Responsible" has further criticized both the political and armed leadership in Jammu and Kashmir for lacking vision and initiatives. "Kashmiri leadership acted as a proxy for the establishment. It has betrayed the cause of its people for self and filial interests. And in less than 12 years since 1995 the Kashmiri leadership without any explanation or reference to the people of Kashmir has accepted to change their horses mid stream," said the report.
