Russians rally to take back their democracy – who will win Putin or people of Russia?
Sudhir Chadda
Apr. 15, 2007
Russia is at a very critical stage. The fiasco that started with the downfall of corrupt communists in eighties eventually turned into a KGB dictatorship under the leadership of Putin. The Russian people are fed up. They want real democracy not some open crude oligarchy.
Violent clashes between riot police and anti-Kremlin demonstrators spread to St Petersburg on Sunday. Moscow is already seeing the anger of Russian common people. They question the oligarchy under Putin’s leadership.
Yesterday, 2,000 people gathered and demonstrated for an anti-Kremlin rally in Moscow, the largest ever seen against the Putin administration in the Russian capital.
Putin is a better leader than Russia has seen in the last sixty years. But still he and his administration fall short of real people for common people. The demonstrations are still small in number and intensity. It is time for Putin to get out of his KGB short and work for the common Russian people. It is time to establish a real democracy in Russia.
