‘Black’ – one of the best Indian movies ever made - ready for Oscars 2006 Foreign Language Film Award – a must see for every human being on the earth

Feb. 13, 2005

It is not just the cinematography, it is not just the acting, it just not the background music – it is whole movie – every frame is a piece of art. It is about “learning to live for others”. Every human being who has seen this movie will feel closer to “God” and will keep thinking about the true meaning of life.

It is about a little girl who became blind and deaf when she was 2 years old. The parents were giving up. She was about to be sent to the mental asylum though she had no problem with her brain. The little Michelle Mcnally was about to be finished the way millions of disadvantaged children are doomed for lack of understanding and compassion.

A miracle happened in her life. Her “teacher” who would sacrifice every inch of his life to make her successful in life came to rescue her. It was the climax of joy and determination when Michelle finally received her degree from the University – most remarkable achievement for any student who cannot see, hear or talk.

The movie touches the heart of every human being when Alzheimer disease affects the “teacher” and he forgets everything including Michelle. Finally, Michelle gives it back when she reciprocates the miracle back by bringing her “teacher” back to life.

”It is the true life of a dedicated teacher” – said a NY special education teacher with tear in her eyes. “When you see these kids, their parents, you know God has asked you do the miracle”, she says.

The best acting was by Ayesha Kapur, the little Michelle McNally of eight years old. This is undoubtedly the best movie of Amitabh Bacchan (the teacher, Debraj Sahai) and Rani Mukherjee (grown up Michelle Mcnally). But remarkable was the role of the mother played by Nandana Sen. Every one acted from their heart. It was a natural piece of contemporary art.
