U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan ended a two-day trip to Iran on Sept. 3 without convincing Tehran to stop enriching uranium before the U.N. Security Council meeting on Iran's nuclear program. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told Annan that though Iran is prepared to discuss its nuclear program with the United Nations, it will not stop enriching uranium before entering negotiations. Annan had hoped to meet with Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, but no meeting took place.
