US and UK companies exploiting India for Call Centre Scams

Lets send all jobs to India
- Tony Blair

We are not trying to steal jobs, if people cannot go to jobs, jobs will come to them
- Atal Behari Vajpayee

Recently Tony Blair has defended exporting jobs to India. It does not matter whether India sent troops to Iraq or not – he defended exporting all call centre jobs to India. Prime Minister Vajpayee in recent days has said ” We are not trying to steal jobs, if people cannot go to jobs, jobs will come to them”. India in recent days has become the call centre hub for the English speaking part of the World. We suppose a slight degradation from Software body supplier to men and women phone attendants who try to imitate US accents. For example call 800-851-2772. The call will either go to one of the US call centres or one (supposedly) in Nevada. On investigation we found that US companies are setting up call centres in India and naming them as if they are in US or Canada. When people from US call, they know they are calling Nevada or some parts of US but in reality they are getting transferred to Mumbai or Bangalore. The people who answer these calls know little about their products and rarely understand deep rooted US accents. Many times they will hang up in the middle or quickly transfer the calls to the supervisor. Most of these call centres serve cheap direct marketing companies in US who would market anything – anywhere – from anyone. Guess what happens when you receive these calls – yes who ever calls are rude and know very well that they are being cheated by some scam performing companies setting up shops in India to avoid US and UK Federal prosecutions. A new law in US prohibits calling and harassing innocent US citizens in their home trying to sell stuffs if they opted not to be bothered. The American companies are moving these cold calling jobs to India. Already in US people have started saying “some British-Indian accent bothering us during dinner time from India”.
Fact of the matter is Indians were being brought in to US and Europe to do the software coding jobs that need a bunch of robots and not a degree holder with intelligence. The call centre jobs are worse than that. The fact of the matter is that like Iraq, India is in the process of making a grave mistake – a total failure in PR policy. The Indian politicians must learn to say what they “should” say and be real diplomats and politician and not real idiots. Currently the job climate in US and UK is poor. High tech jobs are difficult to find and jobs that can be replaced by the Web are non-existent. Citizens of UK and US are struggling make both end meet. Unions are up in the arms to ban India and China. Common saying in the street is “India and China are exporting their deflation to US and UK”. The most important thing in International business is to manage the perception. Indian politicians and business leaders have failed miserably in this aspect. India has failed to make product and export them to US and Europe. The concentration is on making easy money by supplying some cheap bodies in the software or call centre market. Sooner or later this will backfire and major problem will have to be dealt with. Unlike China India does not have the economic mussel of buying hundreds of commercial aircrafts from Boeing or Airbus. India needs a better International Business perception management process. By the way, Mr. Vajpayee should make a short phone call to his friend and well wisher Tony Blair and say “ Please do not mention what you said in public.”
