Russia intends to re-equip all three arms of its strategic nuclear triad by 2016, Chief of the General Staff Yury Baluyevsky said July 7 at a meeting of the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament. To supplement the Topol-M ballistic missiles that are slowly coming on line, the navy is slotted to receive at least three Project 955 Borei-class nuclear-powered submarines, to be equipped with SS-N-30 Bulava missiles. The air force recently received a modernized Tu-160 Blackjack, the largest strategic bomber in the world, and expects the first delivery before 2007.
