In an ongoing attempt to quell Taliban attacks in southern Afghanistan, Afghan and U.S.-led troops attacked Taliban fighters near Kandahar on July 8. The offensive aims to push back Taliban insurgents in advance of the NATO peacekeeping mission that will take over in the south at the end of July. Three coalition soldiers and one Afghan soldier were wounded July 8 in this latest round of fighting.
