Nepal King's hand picked closed circle appointees quit to avoid embarassment and prosecution
Media Release
Jul. 9, 2006

Several top Nepal officials, including the Chief Election Commissioner and the Human Rights Commission Head, resigned on Sunday as appointees of the former royalist regime came under scrutiny.
Chief Election Commissioner Keshav Raj Rajbhandari, who faced criticism for holding elections under King Gyanendra's absolute rule, quit his job on Sunday - the day a high-level commission was to question him and parliament was scheduled to take up an impeachment motion against him.
Soon after Rajbhandari's resignation, National Human Rights Commission chief Nayan Bahadur Khatri and other members of the country's apex human rights body also resigned en masse, following allegations that they had been appointed out-of-turn by the royal regime and a signature campaign by members of parliament to impeach them.
