A Sunni female member of the Iraqi parliament was kidnapped July 1 in Baghdad along with her eight bodyguards. Taiseer Najeh Awad al-Mashhadani was traveling in a three-car convoy from the province of Diyala to attend a session of parliament when she was stopped by gunmen at a checkpoint in a Shiite area east of the capital. Mashhadani is a member of the National Concord Front, the largest Sunni Arab bloc in parliament.
