Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam rebels in Sri Lanka on June 24 extended the deadline for the withdrawal of EU cease-fire monitors to early September. The rebels ordered the observers out of the country after the European Union branded the Tigers a terrorist group in early June 2006.
