I will be Neta as well as Hero in Bollywood : Govinda

Govinda

Govinda is confident as hell! He is Neta number one and of course Hero number one. He showed the world that he not only can capture Bollywood, he can do it in Mumbai too. On March 26th, Indiadaily predicted based on special Indiadaily opinion poll that Govinda will defeat senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and federal minister Ram Naik in the Mumbai North constituency. Yes he did!

Popular film star-turned-MP Govinda says he has no intention of turning his back on the film industry.

"The industry gave me my bread and butter for 16 years, gave me the chance to look after my mother. I wouldn't say I needed to change my screen image. I wouldn't even say I needed a change," he told IANS.

"Movies are my roots. That's where I got my fame and money. How can I break away from my roots? I may do only one film a year, but I'll do films for sure.

"Govinda, who contested the general election as a Congress candidate, defeated senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and federal minister Ram Naik in the Mumbai North constituency to make his debut in the Lok Sabha.

The actor, best known for his success with a string of comedies, credited his mother for his success.

"I think I've achieved what I have because of my mother. I once asked my mother why she gives away my hard-earned money without asking me, leaving me destitute.

"My mother answered, 'Neither you nor I nor anyone else is responsible for our actions. God makes us do these things.' It's God's will that I work for the people. He'll take care of my responsibilities.

"High on his list of priorities for his constituency are a school, a hospital, drinking water and other amenities.

"I just want plunge into my work. When my electorate came to me suggesting a grand celebration for my victory I told them to hold their horses. Let me first start working for my constituency, then we shall think of a celebration.

"Govinda believes his political innocence and incorruptible nature will hold him in good stead during his stint in politics.

"Innocence is a god-given virtue that must be protected at all cots. Now that I've got the people's mandate I want to return their love," he said.

At the same time, he refused to discuss the rumour that he was considered for the post of information and broadcasting minister.

"There's no greater portfolio than the people's affection. The love that Madam (Sonia Gandhi) gives me by treating me like a child in her own family...what more can I hope for?

Govinda pointed out he entered politics only because of his faith in the Gandhi family.

"I came into politics only because (Sonia Gandhi) and her party asked me to. No point in building a career in politics without a strong foundation. Because I have faith in what I'm doing, people too have faith in me."
