Indian democracy challenged by the new foreign born Queen with her servant Dr. Singh
Sudhir Chadda, Indiadaily political correspondent
 Indian
democracy has finally reached the stage of ultimate failure. Here is a foreign born lady married to the Gandhi dynasty finally grabs power in the middle of a political crisis with less than 20% vote from electorate. She decides to take the fame, enjoy the power, tinker the affairs from behind the scene, appoint her personal servant Dr. Manmohan Singh as PM and avoid all controversies associated with a political life – supposed to be a genuine community service. Yes, we are talking about Antonia Maino - Sonia Gandhi. The problem is, as a ruling party chief – no matter how thin margin of victory was, she should have come forward and become the prime minister. Neither her nor Rahul wanted to take the responsibility. They are afraid of something – if so of what? They say they are not interested in power. May be but politics is not for power only – it is mainly for community service and serving the country. If she does not want to become the PM, she should have resigned or take herself off from political scenario. She has behaved as a newly sworn in Queen trying rule through her set of personal servants – the cabinet. It is a shame for India to bring a dynasty back in the name of politics. Look at the coalition they have brought together. No matter how long this coalition can survive, it is a matter of time before these “quick rich” factors rob India of all India has achieved in the last ten years.
Should Sonia Gandhi be allowed to tinker with India’s matters of significance? No. She should prove herself as a community leader not just by talking but taking the stance to lead the country if she can. Otherwise she should leave the political scenario. People voted for her to become Prime Minister not for her deputies. If there are legal matters that do not allow her to become PM, then she should come and put the facts straight.
While India will continue to shine, what has happened is a matter of regret and black chapter in the history of India.
The newly sworn in cabinet has diverse components. Can Dr. manage these components? Most likely he will fail to manage Sonia Gandhi herself. India needs a charismatic leader – not a Queen trying to rule from behind the scene. While communal harmony and secular behavior is appreciated, some guts are needed to take responsibilities and guide a country like India. Slogans on communal harmony are welcome but it can be very dangerous without proper action and extreme failure and dishonesty from all other directions.
The integrity of the new leaders are in deep question whether it is a matter of Bofors or Laloo’s Karma in Bihar. The coming days will show how this newly sworn in Government acts. International community is looking at India closely.
