BJP failed because it lost sight of its goals
Sudhir Chadda, political correpondent from New Delhi

The main cause for BJP’s route is the fact that it failed to execute its own mandate. It tried to follow Israel in pulling US on its side, it failed, Pakistan scored well. It tried to liberalize without giving proper attention to the real India – the rural India. The urban middle class enjoyed but had little votes to thank Vajpayee. BJP’s biggest failure came from shifting away from the main goal – Hinudtwa. Vajpayee’s liberal views made the core constituents of BJP shy away from the party. BJP became over confident with “Feel Good” effect. The net result of that is Congress came back to power with Marxists for the first time in India’s history. The biggest failure of BJP was in trusting USA. It tried to shift the country away from non-aligned status. It did nothing for its strongest ally Iraq and Saddam. It tried to join hands with Israel. All back fired. It became complacent on the state assembly election results six months back. BJP started calling the campaign “India Shines”. Behind the scene as usual in India the anti-incumbent politics started playing its screwed game. The route started with Andhra Pradesh. It has ended in Vajpayee’s resignation.
BJP became a party of the privileged blessed with high tech and India’s newly acquired hefty foreign exchange reserve. Economic success of India did not culminate into main street successes in real India – the rural India. NDA – the BJP and its allies brought the Cyber Coolie culture in Indian middle class. It went after all the Bollywood heros and heroines to make them “netas”. Everything backfired. No party in the history of the world with so much success has ever bowed out so dramatically.
