Hollywood not sure about Ash – Ami Vashi probable choice

The Paramount Pictures feature will have an Indian actress to play the lead role
opposite Brad Pitt. Bollywood baddie Gulshan Grover, who has been asked by Paramount to scout a Bollywood actor, says “it will be the biggest role in an international project for an Indian actress.” But Grover has been told the company doesn’t want Rai. “I didn’t bother to ask them why,” he says, adding his conjecture is they possibly wanted someone who has not done any work in Hollywood or is not heard of. “I personally believe Aishwarya is a good actor,” he says. Grover says his brief is to find someone beautiful, with Indian looks. She should be a good actor, should speak good English and have a face and personality that would appeal to a Western audience too.
When we asked Paramount Picture officials about Rai, the answer was typical American indifference. Who is she? “ We need some real Indian – not those musical type.” What they are probably looking for is an Indian lady who typically represents India with American English accent and cultural underpinnings. According to reliable sources, Ami Vashi is being considered for the role actively. It is true she has all these qualities.
She is American born with American English accent and meets all that Paramount Picture wants. She was the Femina Miss India World 2003.
